Reinventing Government Interactions for a Sustainable Future
At Symbium, we're on a mission to streamline how citizens interact with local government and cut through the red tape in permitting processes. Imagine a world where homeowners and contractors can effortlessly navigate complex regulations, instantly determine what projects are possible on their property, and secure approvals with the click of a button. Symbium is making that world a reality. By transforming dense rules into user-friendly software, we empower people to get work done without frustration and delay.
Symbium's proprietary computational law (Complaw®) technology – initially developed at Stanford's AI Lab – performs permit compliance checks in real time, enabling instant permit approvals. Symbium is currently partnered with 270+ cities – and growing fast. Our platform accelerates clean energy adoption by simplifying approvals for installations of solar panels, reroofing, and EV chargers to heat pumps and beyond. This streamlined process helps communities transition more quickly to decarbonization and energy independence.
The Opportunity
Symbium is looking for a highly organized, technically-minded, and relationship-driven Government Deployment Lead to support the onboarding and long-term success of Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) partners on Symbium.
In this role, you will work directly with local governments, permit tracking system vendors, internal product and engineering teams, and external stakeholders to ensure successful deployment of Symbium integrations and workflows. You will guide AHJs through permit setup requirements, manage complex onboarding processes across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously, and act as a trusted advisor throughout implementation and support.
This role requires someone who is equally comfortable navigating technical discussions, managing bureaucratic processes, building strong working relationships with government officials, and driving projects forward expeditiously. You should be comfortable asking detailed operational questions, challenging inefficient workflows, and helping partners understand how to streamline their permitting processes within Symbium's platform.
If you enjoy solving operational and technical problems, coordinating across diverse stakeholders, and helping modernize government systems at scale, you'll thrive in this role.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
-
Lead AHJ onboarding and deployment execution
- Manage onboarding and deployment processes for new and existing AHJ partners from kickoff through launch.
- Guide AHJs through permit configuration and setup requirements necessary for integration with Symbium.
- Coordinate multiple concurrent deployments while maintaining clear timelines, milestones, and communication across stakeholders.
- Build repeatable onboarding processes and operational best practices to improve deployment efficiency and scalability.
-
Drive technical implementation discussions
- Conduct technical and operational meetings with AHJs to ensure permitting workflows are configured efficiently and accurately.
- Gather structured permitting, workflow, and operational data required for Symbium integrations.
- Ask thoughtful and detailed questions to understand existing government processes and identify unnecessary complexity or inefficiencies.
- Push back diplomatically on superfluous or redundant requirements that negatively impact user experience, operational efficiency, or scalability.
- Clearly explain Symbium's end-to-end workflow and system capabilities to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Coordinate across internal and external teams
- Partner closely with product, engineering, and deployment teams to communicate implementation requirements, technical blockers, and customer feedback.
- Maintain accurate deployment documentation, CRM records, and project tracking systems.
- Serve as a liaison between AHJs, permit software vendors, and Symbium's internal teams throughout onboarding and support engagements.
- Coordinate with permit tracking system vendors to request API access, technical documentation, and integration support.
-
Navigate complex stakeholder environments
- Build strong working relationships with government staff, department leaders, technical administrators, and permit system vendors.
- Identify key decision makers, project champions, and operational stakeholders necessary to move deployments forward.
- Navigate bureaucratic approval processes and organizational dynamics across jurisdictions.
- Handle sensitive vendor and partner conversations thoughtfully, especially in situations where vendors may view Symbium as a competitive threat.
-
Support ongoing AHJ operations
- Respond to AHJ support inquiries, including technical and operational issues that may be time-sensitive in nature.
- Troubleshoot onboarding, workflow, and integration issues in partnership with internal technical teams.
- Continuously identify opportunities to enable additional permits, improve deployment processes, communication workflows, and customer experience.
Who We're Looking For (Qualifications)
We are looking for someone who thrives in high-ownership environments and enjoys solving operational, technical, and organizational challenges. You might be a great fit if you have:
- 4+ years of experience in deployment management, technical account management, implementation consulting, government technology, customer success, operations, or a related field.
- Experience managing complex cross-functional projects with multiple external stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead meetings, ask probing questions, and explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous environments and independently driving projects to completion.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail while managing multiple deployments simultaneously.
- Experience documenting workflows, maintaining CRM systems, and creating scalable operational processes.
- Ability to navigate bureaucratic organizations and build relationships across multiple levels of government and external vendors.
- Confidence participating in technical discussions involving APIs, integrations, permitting systems, and workflow configuration.
- Strong judgment and diplomacy when handling sensitive stakeholder conversations or pushing back on inefficient processes.
- A high sense of ownership, accountability, and responsiveness, especially when handling time-sensitive support requests.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience working with local governments, permitting departments, or regulatory workflows.
- Familiarity with permitting software systems such as Accela, Tyler, OpenGov, Clariti/Camino, Cityworks, Infor, or similar platforms.
- Experience working with APIs, SaaS integrations, or workflow automation systems.
- Background in clean energy, construction technology, civic technology, or government operations.
- Experience in startup or high-growth environments where processes are still evolving.
- Familiarity with CRM and project management platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Jira, or similar tools.
